It's been 18 days and so far I still can't suspect if it is going to work or not. I thought this would be much more painful than it actually has been--so that's one plus. I can already compare the surgery foot with the non-surgery foot, and the surgery foot's fascia is much longer. It is very tender at the incision site, and if that tenderness subsides, I will start to feel better about the outcome.

The problem is I'm not certain if the pain I am experiencing is from the surgery or if it is still from the plantar fasciitis. I tried wearing my regular shoes this morning, instead of the walking boot, but with the orthotics and the pressure on the incision area, it is just too tender still. It almost seems like the tenderness has been increasing as the healing increases. Maybe the nerve endings are growing back?? We will see. I am having the right foot done in 3 weeks. March 16, 2005.

It has been 24 days and I finally got the nerve to remove the walking caste and put on my regular shoe. It is quite funny becuase my right foot has my i-rok and orthotic on, but my left foot (the surgery foot) has a different shoe on without the orthotic--which would just push into the incision site and cause more pain. So I'm walking with two separate shoes. Still very tender, but definitely a different pain than the non-surgical foot. I hear for some people it actually takes 6 months to really know the true outcome.

It's been 4 months today, and I am very confused. My doctors appointment yesterday hurt my feelings, because he gave me the impression that if my pain hasn't decreased dramatically the surgery probably didn't work and he has decided that we should cancel the 2nd surgery for the other foot--which is supposed to be in 2 weeks. I am still walking slowly and with a slight limp but I think that the pain is only focused because of the surgery. I know that other people take a long time to heal from this and I still have hope that it will work. I still must wear two separate shoes, so that must be a sign of something, but what I'm not sure.

I'm sorry, it has been 4 weeks, and 1 month, for the above comment.

It's been 2 months post surgery and I am very disappointed. Supposedly I still have 2 months to go before I know the true outcome but my pain is more severe at the fascia area of the surgery foot than the non-surgery foot. 2 days ago I developed the complication on pain on the outside of the foot and on top of the foot becuase my arch has fallen and the fascia is more relaxed. I have a limp now (Im only 25) and I did not limp before the surgery. If this continues I will need to use a crutch. I am still using crutches for shopping and anything on my feet for more than 15 minutes. I cry all the time....blah blah blah....thought I should give an update. I wish I hadn't have done the EPF!!!!

5 months post EPF and no more improvement. I wish my fascia was still were it was before, now it is so low. I really cant believe something that was going to help actually gave me twice as much pain. If you have atypical PF, DO NOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF SURGERY
