First Entry: Date: 04/17/2006 . . . Pain Level: 4 . . . Activity Level: 1 . . . Satisfaction with surgery: 10
Am doing very well with pain control, although a bit bored with the down time. If it's a success, it will all be worth it. I'm only one week out of surgery now, so can't say much about it being successful yet.

Date: 04/24/2006 . . . Pain Level: 1 . . . Activity Level: 1 . . . Satisfaction with surgery: 10
I'm two weeks out of surgery now and feeling really good. I'm not supposed to put any weight yet on the foot, so I am still immobile. I can just feel the healing results! My foot feels so much stronger even without being able to put pressure on it. One more week before the stitches come out and the cam walker goes on. I'm looking forward to a bit more freedom. My pain level is almost zero this week, so I'm feeling very optimistic about a successful operation.

Date: 05/08/2006 . . . Pain Level: 2 . . . Activity Level: 5 . . . Satisfaction with surgery: 10
The surgery was four weeks ago today now. I am VERY encouraged with how things are going. I had my stitches taken out at three weeks and got a cam walker. Things feel better and look better than what they should at this point, so I'm optimistic. I did test the "you can walk till it hurts" message a little more than I should have. And now I am off my feet for a day or two of rest. Nothing major happened, but I got a lot of sore muscles mostly in the upper part of my foot and my whole left leg and hip area due to their taking most of the weight when I was walking. I haven't used crutches or anything since the three-week mark and can even do full stairs. I'll keep you posted!

Date: 05/20/2006 . . . Pain Level: 4 . . . Activity Level: 9 . . . Satisfaction with surgery: 10
I am about six weeks post surgery now. I was able to start walking a few days ago without the cam walker and I adapted very well and very quickly. However, I went overboard a bit and have been paying for it with muscle pain. I don't have any pain in the surgery area or the heel itself, but rather in all the muscles that went dormant after such a long period of inactivity. My incision is hardly noticeable now. I can already tell that there is no pain in the areas where I had it before surgery. Everything feels quite "stretchy" and limber. I just need to slow down a little now and let my body catch up with my mind.

Date: 06/07/2006 . . . Pain Level: 3 . . . Activity Level: 7 . . . Satisfaction with surgery: 10
I feel like I was doing better at six weeks than I am now. I can walk, but the pain is still too bothersome to take more than a 15-minute walk. I have shooting pains through my heel area a few times day and it seems to be getting worse to get up and walk the first minute or two after rest instead of better. It's also worse even after walking awhile. I wonder if I've done too much too early since I am notorious for being on the go physically. I took an hour bike ride several days ago that was fine while I was riding but had shooting pains in my foot all that night. I still get swelling in front of my ankle like I had before the surgery. Well, I'm just trying to slow down more now and see if things start improving again.
