This is the third week since my surgery. As of yet, I've not been able to walk without crutches. I began putting weight on my foot last week on the advice of my doctor. I had my first shower since the surgery Tuesday night. What a blessing! I was getting a little tired of the sponge baths. The pain is manageable, although I'm a little concerned that I can't place all five toes on the floor yet. I see the doctor tomorrow, so I'll discuss that with him then. Last week, I was still having numbness in my toes and toes and lower leg were very cold. That has stopped, so I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before the numbness goes away totally. I go back to work teaching on the 16th of January. I am really hoping that I'll be able to stand for long periods of time, but at this moment I don't think that I can. Not unless I have a vast improvement by next week. I've read in some posts that people have returned to their normal lives very quickly, even driving, but I haven't tried that yet. I was told when I first began discussing the surgery with my dr. that it was a four-week recovery period. I'm going to use those four weeks so that I can be at my best when I return to work.
