Foot pain

I have a burning/stabbing pain sensation in the arch of my left foot just above my heal area. Doesn't bother me as badly on days I wear heals, but if I spend the day in flats the pain in the evening is bad. Some mornings when I get up I can not put any weight on the left foot at all and have to walk on the side of it. Wrapping helps some, but the pain always comes back. Anyone have these same symptoms.....what is it? What treatments are out there. I'm in an HMO (so I want to learn all I can and request the physician I want.)
