Three and a half weeks ago, I made my first appointment with a podiatrist...got ultrasound, a cortisone shot ( it did not hurt)...got a Prostretch to improve flexibility, and was sent to a pedorthist, who fitted me for orthotics and explained my condition and the need for proper footwear. I got the orthotics two days ago, and after some discomfort breaking them in, I feel better than I have in a year and a half. I learned that my left foot was flat, and I learned that my foot width is EE, not D, as every shoe salesman has told me for years. Since they don't stock a lot of wide shoes, the scheme is to sell you the widest one they have in stock, which is, more times than not, a D. Get sized properly, stretch, and see a doctor if you have not already.
