Does anyone have pain under the toe area??

I have pain under my 3rd and 4th toe on the underside of my foot. The doctor has informed me that it could be an irritation of the metatarsal head OR it could be a neuroma. He told me he would inject it with cortisone and I refused!! Has anyone else had similar pain and if so how was it treated???
