Stretching - to Jacki

This is in response to earlier posts about stretching. I am convinced that stretching hurts my foot more than helps. Even though I had stopped stretching at home, I'm in physical therapy for my knee and they have me doing strength training for my leg. Two of their stretches are similar to Scott's raised board stretch -- and when I do those properly, I can't walk for 2 days. So -- I have stoppedthose even in PT.

The only calf stretch I do is the basic runners stretch: Face the wall, hands on the wall in front of you, one foot back with foot flat on the floor stretching the Achilles tendon. I'm sure you know the one. But -- I only do it for about 10-15 seconds for each leg, twice per leg in the morning and that's it. Unlike a lot of people who have tight muscles and tight fascia, I think my plantar fascia have been overstretched from strong high arches, too flexible a foot, lots of walking and pronation. So I try not to do anything that stretches them evenmore.

I think we might be in the minority who are not helped by stretching -- but I guess it's important to learn what works for the individual. I'm with you -- I don't ice much unless I have serious pain.
