The store I shop at sell only Birks (and a handful of Tevas). They actually pass out material about PF describing the condition, symptoms, pain, possible remedies -- and with a little section on why Birks are good for PF. For the most part -- the footbed in the Arizona Birkenstock is the same footbed that is in the majority of other Birks. The difference is in the styling of the shoe, the color, leather vs. non leather, etc. -- but the Birk footbed is the Birk footbed (except for the Tatami line which has a higher arch and more rounded sole). The Arizona footbed is no different than the footbed of any other Birkenstock -- so, I guess, buyer beware.
I have 2 pairs of Arizonas and they help more than any other shoe I have tried. I am going to get more Birks. My suggestion is that you visit a Birkenstock store in person, get one of their catalogs which describe the shoe construction, view the shoe construction in the store (they have little layered models) -- and try them on. Get fitted by a professional in the store -- I ended up taking 2 sizes smaller than I would have selected by myself. Proper fit is critical with these shoes, so let the store salesperson help you. And realize, please, that the Birk insert is not going to be the same as the Birk sandal. You're dealing with a $45 insert vs. a $90 shoe -- there's going to be a difference. Some people hate them, some love them. I love them and am going to get more.
