I have had PF(both feet) for two years. I think it resulted from having Hallux Limitus in both great toes. I have tried everything (night splint, ice, heat, medication, orthotics, poditrist, and physician with a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery). On the 23rd of April i am having surgery on one foot to correct the hallux limitus (cheilectomy). At the same time the surgeon will cut a triangular shaped wedge out of the fascia where it connects to the heel.He said the pain which i have just forward of the heel is where the fascia run over a nerve that runs across the foot just forward of the heel. He said he has about a 60% success rate with this procedure and it keeps your fasca intact. I asked him what were chances it could make it worse and he said almost nil. He does have a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery and is considered the best in my area (little rock). will keep you advised.
