Gave up the night splints
Posted by Lysa on 2/08/99
Went to the podiatrist this morning. The night splints only relieved that intnse first thing in the morning pain that goes away after hot shoer and stretching anyways so I can't see the point of wearing them and not being able to sleep all night. I stopped getting muscle cramps after the first 2 weeks but the thing that I had a problem with was falling asleep on my back and waking up every 2 hours when I tried to roll onto my stomach while I was asleep. It's hard to sleep on your stomach comfortably with your feet (both of them) in the splints.
Thanks to all the messages here I have decided on a plan. Bought a pair of Saucony Grids this morning, the Dr put extra arch support in them and am trying heel cups. I'm going to start looking for a job at tleast part time that I can enjoy again. Will cont ice, heat, massage, stretching routine and learn to deal with the pain. I need to be in a job that I enjoy. Can't take desk job full time. I'll probably keep working there some to supplement part time other job, I need full time income. Have to work on getting out of this depression.
At first I found this site very depressing, I think because it made me realize there was not going to be a quick answer.( After 3 years, I was hoping for an end to this) Then it helped me to realize I need to take control and not let this detemine my whole life attitude. I'm going to start working on the weight thing too but one thing at a time.
A great big thanks to all of you who share here. It has been great hearing from all of you. I'll keep ya updated on progress.
